| Résumé |
Le sacré, en tant que dimension essentielle de l'expérience humaine, a été délaissé par la modernité et les idéaux des Lumières qui lui servaient de fondement, tels que le progrès, la raison, l'histoire. En faisant siens ces idéaux, une partie de la sociologie a parié soit sur la disparition du sacré soit sur son rapatriement vers l'individualisme, s'interdisant ainsi de penser la transcendance en rapport avec l'immanence et de saisir la charge émotionnelle et religieuse à l'œuvre dans de nombreuses manifestations de la postmodernité. Une autre partie de la sociologie s'est attachée à montrer l'obsolescence des idéaux modernes et à comprendre la spécificité de la postmodernité. C'est reconnaître l'immatériel au fondement de toute réalité et le sacré comme forme permanente de toute structuration sociale. De ce point de vue, les technologies du numérique contribuent à la résurgence du sacré dans la postmodernité et confortent le mystère et la mystique que l'on retrouve dans la formation et la consolidation de l'existence communautaire et collective. The sacred, as an essential dimension of the human experience, has been abandoned by modernity and the ideals of the Enlightenment that served as its foundation, such as those of progress, reason, and history. By adopting these ideals, one side of sociology has bet on either the disappearance of the sacred or on its repatriation to individualism, thus being incapable of thinking about transcendence in accordance with immanence, and of understanding the emotional and religious charge that is present in several manifestations of postmodernity. Another side of sociology has focused on showing the obsolescence of modern ideals and on understanding the specificity of postmodernity. This, in other words, implies recognizing the immaterial as the foundation of all reality and the sacred as a permanent form of all social structuring. From this point of view, digital technologies contribute to the resurgence of the sacred in postmodernity and strengthen the mystery and mystique that we find in the formation and consolidation of community and collective existence.
