Résumé anglais The adventures of justice. Some reflections on the contribution of the sociology of conventions to the analysis of educational policies in the transition period between the 20th and 21st centuriesWhat has been the contribution of the sociology of conventions to research in education and more specifically the study of French educational policies since the 1980s? The period has seen intense work on the definition of justice in education and several systems of convention have succeeded each other. A first matrix was based on the management of the tension between the goals of equality and the goals of efficiency. The compromise proposed by the ideal of equal opportunities had been in crisis since the 1960s; reformulations founded on the search for equity did not take hold and globalisation led to a strong movement of the cursor towards the search for performance. A new organisation was put into place, founded on the principles of the new public management. It has been strongly challenged since the end of the 20th century by migrations and the claims for the recognition of differences. A new matrix was implemented around the goal of integration. This matrix has gone back to the Durkheimian perspectives which were at the origin of the discipline, but in a very different context: it consists of creating a new cosmopolitism which takes into account the plurality of discourses of truth whilst maintaining humanist and democratic values and rethinking redistribution in a global framework which thinks together about the problems of the North and the problems of the South.
