Depuis le début du xxie siècle, les frontières entre réalité et fiction se font, dans la littérature française, (de nouveau) saisissables. À l'écriture postmoderne, qui effaçait les différences entre les deux pôles, succèdent toutes sortes de procédés narratifs qui travaillent à rendre palpable l'hétérogénéité des éléments réels au cœur de la fiction. Ainsi la littérature « post-postmoderne » se distingue-t-elle tant du réalisme historique que de la littérature postmoderne des années 1980-1990. Partant du postulat de l'existence d'une césure entre la fin du xxe et le début du xxie siècle, constatée par la recherche germanophone, mais aussi italienne et nord-américaine, cet article explore, à l'aide d'exemples concrets, la nouvelle manière dont la littérature française appréhende la réalité extratextuelle. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the boundaries between reality and fiction in French literature have become more visible (again). Postmodern writing, which erased the differences between these two poles, is now succeeded by all kinds of narrative techniques which aim to make the heterogeneity of real elements in fiction tangible. In so doing, “post-postmodern” literature distances itself both from historical realism and from the postmodern literature of the 1980s and 1990s. Drawing on research from Germany, Italy and North America, that has identified a turning point between the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, this article explores, using concrete examples, the new approaches that French literature uses to apprehend extra-textual reality.
