	Résumé	Cet article traite de la notion d'inchoatif en français moderne qui semble poser problème à plus d'un titre. Une première partie présente les significations fondamentales du concept et leurs réalisations linguistiques correspondantes. Nous distinguerons deux grandes approches : l'une sémantico-syntaxique et l'autre historico-morphologique. Dans la deuxième partie, nous examinerons la possibilité d'une typologie intégrée des catégories inchoatives, à savoir « l'inchoatif ingressif » et « l'inchoatif progressif ». Après avoir passé en revue, et écarté, diverses analyses précédemment proposées dans la littérature, il est démontré que la plupart des propriétés (la structure logico-sémantique, la télicité, le type de procès, la transition, la conceptualisation en termes de mouvement) n'appuient pas une vision intégrée de l'inchoatif en français. 	Résumé anglais	Inchoativity in French Linguistics This article deals with the notion of inchoativity in modern French which seems to be problematic in more than one way. A first, descriptive, part reviews the core meanings of the concept and their corresponding linguistic realizations. It is divided into two main approaches: one semantic-syntactic and the other historico-morphological. In the second part, we will examine the possibility of an integrated typology of the inchoative categories « ingressive inchoative » and « progressive inchoative ». After having reviewed, and discarded, various analyses previously proposed in the literature, it is shown that most of the properties (logical-semantic structure, telicity, situation type, transition, conceptualization in terms of movement) do not support an integrated view on inchoativity in French.
