Résumé Abstract. - About fifteen years ago Picardy became one of the main areas for vegetable-canning industry producing two fifths of the peas and French beans. Indeed, factories coming from Paris, French Brittany and the North, settled in Picardy and large scale farming showed its technical interest. After them, coopérative stores started smaller affairs, but they were stopped by competition and the difficulties of the new situation. The map shows the vegetable-growing areas (Santerre, Soissonnais, Valois, North-East of Oise) where extensive farming was a traditional activity, that are now spreading to the west on the smaller table lands of Picardy.
