Cet article traite de deux espaces de participation mis en place dans un quartier de Berlin dans le cadre de la politique ciblant les quartiers populaires en Allemagne (le « management de quartier » au sein du programme « Ville sociale ») : un atelier cuisine dans une association et un café des parents dans une école primaire. Par le biais d'une approche ethnographique et pragmatiste, il y questionne l'appropriation par les participantes – des femmes issues de l'immigration, mères de condition populaire et pour certaines employées par le biais de dispositifs de contrat aidé comme « mères de quartier » – des prescriptions institutionnelles entourant leur bonne participation. Si la participation effective n'est pas sans décalages par rapport aux objectifs institutionnels, leur observation régulière donne à voir des styles interactionnels empreints de convivialité peu propices à la discussion des inégalités. Toutefois, dans les confins de ces espaces, en s'appuyant sur un entre-soi fondé sur une relative non-mixité et des relations fortes, les participantes développent un discours caché relatif à la domination sur la base d'une commune identité de genre, de mère d'élève à l'école et d'individus issus de l'immigration stigmatisée. Si le phénomène d'évaporation du politique analysé par Nina Eliasoph se vérifie, l'article montre que l'analyse doit aussi laisser place aux possibles processus de re-condensation du politique dans les arrière-scènes participatives. This paper is about two participation spaces implemented in a neighborhood in Berlin within the policy which targets poor neighborhoods in Germany (the “Quartiersmanagement” within the program “Social City”): a cooking workshop in an association and a parents café in a primary school. Through an ethnographical and pragmatist approach, it questions the appropriation from participants – women with migration backgrounds and low incomes, some of them employed through subsidized contracts as “neighborhood mothers” – of the institutional prescriptions regarding their good participation. If the actual participation shows some differences compared to the institutional aims, their regular observation shows interactionnal styles tinged with conviviality, not favourable to the discussion of the inequalities. However, in the backyard of those spaces, the participants, leant on single-sex and strongs relations, are developing a hidden transcript of domination on the basis of a common identity of gender, as mother of pupils and individuals coming from stgmatized immigration. If the phenomenon of evaporation of politics analyzed from Nina Eliasoph is confirmed, this paper shows that the analysis have too to give place the possible process of re-condensation of politics in the backyard of participation.
