La multiplication des questions environnementales pose à la sociologie une double question, scientifique et politique, que cet article entend aborder sous l'angle de la pratique de l'enquête en contexte de commande publique. Comment intégrer les objets de nature à la description et à l'analyse sociologique ? Comment accompagner la prise en charge des questions environnementales ? Pour répondre à ces questions, cet article prend ses distances avec les implicites d'une commande publique fréquemment exprimés en termes de représentations sociales ou de faisabilité. Il montre les apports d'une sociologie d'inspiration interactionniste à trois moments de l'enquête. Tout d'abord, contre l'implicite théorique faisant des représentations collectives le ressort de l'explication, l'article défend une renégociation de la commande permettant de privilégier l'analyse des actions individuelles et de la nature des échanges entre acteurs. Ensuite, contre l'implicite ontologique entérinant le face à face entre nature et culture, l'article montre l'intérêt d'une approche constructiviste dans le recueil des données mieux à même de saisir les manières dont se redéfinissent mutuellement les deux termes. Enfin, face à l'implicite politique poussant à réfléchir au changement de manière exogène et balistique, l'article défend l'intérêt d'une restitution aux acteurs redonnant sa place aux processus d'apprentissage. The multiplication of the environmental issues lead to a twofold question – scientific and politic – that this paper aims to approach, focusing on the inquiry practices in relation with public sponsors. How to include objects of nature into the sociological analysis ? How to contribute to the management of environmental issues ? To answer to these questions, this paper distances from the hidden meanings of the expectation of the sponsors usually focused on social representation and feasibility. It presents the contributions of an interactionist sociology to tree steps of the inquiry. First, against the theoretical hidden meaning that leads to focus on the social representation as the analysis key, this paper argues for a renegotiation of the expectation of the sponsors in order to favor the analysis of individual actions and of the relationships between actors. Second, against the ontological hidden meaning that leads to ratify the distinction between nature and culture, this paper shows the interests of a constructivist approach for the data collection and the understanding of the mutual definition of nature and culture. Finally, against the political hidden meaning that lead to consider the social change as a hexogen and a ballistic matter, this paper argues for restitutions to the actors that emphasis the learning processes.
