Au début des années Soixante-dix, Michel Foucault incarnait, pour un jeune sociologue, une posture à la fois intellectuelle et militante. Intellectuelle, en ce sens qu'il
aidait à penser une généalogie des dispositifs de pouvoir : la prison était un paradigme
utile pour étudier d'autres domaines de la vie sociale ; militante, dans la mesure où il
encourageait, par son exemple et ses travaux, l'analyse des effets de domination

At the beginning of the 70's, Michel Foucault personified, for a young sociologist,
both an intellectual and militant figure. Intellectual, in the sense that he was helping to
trace a genealogy of the devices of power: prison was an useful paradigm to study other
fields of society; militant, in the way that he encouraged, through his own example and
his works, the analysis of the effects of domination exerted by the institutions against
