La nuit est l'occasion d'une imprécision qui fait pendant à la dureté de la journée :
elle permet la négociation d'un rapport au monde, son habitation. Parce qu'elle relève
aussi de la continuité de l'être, bien plus qu'en raison de la rupture qu'elle introduit
avec la vie sociale, elle provoque l'angoisse. Cette implication fondamentale de l'homme dans la nuit est aussi ce qui porte à la responsabilité liée à la destinée dont témoignent les gens de l'ombre. Cette destinée d'une humanité dans une existence nocturne

The night is the opportunity of an imprecision that balances the hardships of the
day: it allows the negotiation of a relationship to the world, its inhabitation. It provokes
anxiety, more because it involves the continuity of being, than because of the break it
brings in social life. This basic involvement of Man with the night is also what leads to
the responsibility linked to fate, of which the people of the dark testify. That fate of a
humanity in a nocturnal existence means, beyond the day/night contrast, the terrestrial
