	Résumé	Les recherches ethnographiques consacrées à l'art mélanésien ont été trop dispersées, géographiquement et chronologiquement, pour rendre compte de la place dévolue au rêve dans les îles océaniennes. Il apparaît cependant que rêve et production artistique furent longtemps étroitement associés, les artisans se bornaient à reproduire des modèles traditionnels, sauf quand une vision onirique leur faisait adopter d'autres formes : s'étant préparé par l'ingestion de plantes, le rêveur recevait la visite d'un ancêtre qui lui montrait ce qu'il devait changer. L'ethnographie, intéressée par les structures familiales, négligea d'abord le rêve, dont on réévalua l'importance dans le dernier tiers du XXe siècle, quand déjà la production artistique rituelle était en voie d'extinction et quand les soucis du jour envahissaient le rêve. 	Résumé anglais	Ethnographic research on Melanesian art have been too widely dispersed geographically and chronologically to reckon the place allotted to dreams in the oceanian islands. It however appears that the theme of dreams and artistic production were, for a long time, intimately linked, craftsmen used to stick to reproducing traditional models, except when an oneiric vision would make them choose new forms : having prepared himself by ingesting plants, the dreamer would receive the visit of an ancestor who would show him what needed to be changed. More interested in family structures, ethnography first neglected the importance of dreams, which was re-evaluated in the last third of the 20th century, when ritual artistic production was already becoming extinguished and when the troubles of the day were invading the dream.
