L'Homme aux poupées est un roman paru en 1899 qui raconte l'étrange obsession d'un homme amoureux de ses poupées. Derrière cette œuvre mineure typique d'une certain imaginaire fin-de-siècle se profilent des questions redoutables pour l'historien : celle de la classification médicale des désordres psychologiques, singulièrement des déviances du désir sexuel ; celle de la figure du double, de l'automate, de l'inanimé à figure humaine ; celle du regard, du voyeurisme, de la pulsion scopique ; celle du fantastique, de l'« inquiétante étrangeté »... The Man with Dolls The Man with Dolls is a novel appeared in 1899 which tells the strange obsession of a man in love with its dolls.
