| Résumé anglais | Vichy and the modernization of Algeria. Intention or reality? Daniel Lefeuvre. Historians recognize the audacity of the Vichy regime's colonial plans but generally consider them merely as plans coming from technocratie circles with no relation to reality. Newly available archives suggest that for Algeria the reality was quite different. The modernization of colonial policy was wanted by the leaders of the regime and corresponded to immediate and long-term strategic and political preoccupations. Their policy began to be carried out as early as the end of 1940. | |
