On essaie dans cet article de mettre en évidence les caractéristiques de la pensée politique des transhumanistes. On commence par distinguer le transhumanisme du posthumanisme. Ensuite, on montre en quoi la pensée politique des transhumanistes se rattache à deux traditions de la philosophie politique moderne : le libéralisme et l'utilitarisme. On expose enfin les options politiques de Max More, James Hughes et Nick Bostrom à la lumière des distinctions opérées. En conclusion, on exonère la politique transhumaniste de certains des reproches qui lui sont communément adressés. Mais on soutient aussi que, à moins de verser dans la banalité, elle dépend d'options lourdes en philosophie de l'histoire, qu'on n'a guère de bonnes raisons d'endosser. Contours and trends of transhumanist politics In this paper, we try to highlight the characteristics of transhumanists' political thought. We begin by distinguishing transhumanism from posthumanism. Next, we show how the political thinking of the transhumanists is related to two traditions of modern political philosophy: liberalism and utilitarianism. Lastly, the political options of Max More, James Hughes and Nick Bostrom are presented in the light of the distinctions made. In conclusion, the transhumanist political thought is exonerated from some of the reproaches that are commonly addressed to it. But it is also argued that, unless it boils down to trivial claims, it depends on substantial options in philosophy of history, options that we have little reason to endorse.
