Le transhumanisme ne se réduit pas à un projet technoscientifique. Il engage un rapport au monde, à la collectivité, à la cité (polis), qu'il est nécessaire d'interroger, au-delà des enjeux éthiques et utilitaristes qui tendent aujourd'hui à prédominer dans les débats. C'est la nature et le sens de ce « rapport au monde » promu par le mouvement que cet article entend mettre en lumière dans une perspective théorique critique. Son objectif est de montrer que le transhumanisme, y compris quant à la branche dite sociale et progressiste du mouvement, promeut et diffuse un rapport au monde qui se caractérise fondamentalement par l'élusion du politique, au sens philosophique et fondamental du terme. Sur des sujets aussi divers que la prise en charge des risques globaux planétaires, la question des problèmes de santé publique, le bien-être conjugal ou encore les questions écologiques, les transhumanistes avancent des explications de type « psycho-bio-évolutionnistes » qui exonèrent les sociétés capitalistes de toute responsabilité et conduisent à privilégier des solutions technoscientifiques centrées sur l'adaptation humaine. The great adaptation. Transhumanism or the elusion of politics Transhumanism can not be reduced to a technoscientific project. It engages a relation to the world, the community, the city (polis), that we must question beyond the ethical and utilitarian stakes that tend today to predominate in the debates. It is the nature and meaning of this "relation to the world" promoted by the movement that this article intends to highlight in a critical theoretical perspective. Transhumanism, even the branch calling for social and progressive commitment, promotes and diffuses a relation to the world which is fundamentally characterized by the elusion of politics, in the philosophical and basic meaning of the term. Be it the management of global risks, the issue of public health problems, the marital well-being or the ecological issues, transhumanists put forward “psycho-bio-evolutionist” explanations that exonerate capitalist societies of all responsibility and lead to privileging technoscientific solutions centered on human adaptation.
