The come-back of nations over the last ten years invites the historian to reconsider the classic definitions of nation, nationality and State. These definitions can no longer be normative and definitive. They have to be put into a context in which new approaches and new terms (ethnic group, identity) have appeared and compete, if one wants to try to characterize the national phenomenon. | |
