L. Gumilev, a Debated Work: A Response to V. Ermolaev and A. Titov Criticism
The debate on L. N. Gumilev' s works filiation which is opposing Vjačeslav Ermolaev and Aleksandr Titov to me may be viewed as a very specialized topic. Nevertheless, the stakes connected to this controversy are relevant and concern some very important elements of the Soviet and post-Soviet intellectual life. The main point in this controversy is not the filiation between the Eurasianism founding fathers and Gumilev but more specifically the originality of the latter facing the formers. Indeed, the main focus of this debate is how to define Gumilev' s thought concerning ethnicity and to analyze whether his theories can be viewed as a part of the ethnological Soviet science.
