Dans le multimédia, l'informatique sortie du monde rationnel et univoque du signe mathématique rejoint le monde polysémique de l'image. Avec la bureautique s'est amorcée une mutation en profondeur du paradigme calculatoire dans lequel l'informatique était inscrite à l'origine. Dans cet article, l'auteur se propose de revisiter les quelque cinquante années d'existence de l'informatique pour essayer de comprendre, par une analyse essentiellement technico-économique, cette évolution. Selon son hypothèse, on peut, à chaque étape, identifier la technologie porteuse et son mode de diffusion, les acteurs économiques, l'industrie dominante, la structuration de l'espace et les logiques d'usages. In the world of multimedia, the outgrowth of computer science from a rational and univocal world of the mathematical sign is closely akin to the polysémie world of the image. With office automation there has begun an in-depth mutation of the paradigm which gave birth to computer science. In this article the author sets out to revisit the last 50 years or so of computer science in order to try and understand this evolution, through what is an essentially technical and economic analysis. According to his hypothesis, it is possible to identify, at each historical period, the primary technology and its avenues of circulation, the economic actors, the leading industry, the structuring of space, and the inscribed logic in the use of a particular technology.
