Cet article s'intéresse aux communautés de langue française du Canada, plus particulièrement aux minorités francophones qui vivent dans les provinces majoritairement anglophones du pays. Il aborde principalement trois thèmes : 1˚ la présence actuelle du français et le poids démolinguistique des francophones au Canada ; 2˚ les origines des communautés francophones à travers le pays ; 3˚ les études consacrées aux variétés de français parlées dans ces différentes communautés. The French-speaking communities in the mainly anglophone provinces of Canada: outline and issues This article deals with French-speaking communities in Canada, more precisely with Francophone minorities that live in the mainly English-speaking provinces of the country. Three major themes are addressed: 1˚ the presence of French and the demographic weight of Francophones in Canada; 2˚ the origins of the French-speaking communities that can be found throughout the country; 3˚ the literature on the varieties of French that are spoken in these communities. The article also discusses the existing relationship between the French-speaking minorities and Francophones living in Québec, whose language is spoken by a majority of people in the province.
