À partir d'une enquête de terrain monographique dans un village français, ce texte montre ce qu'une innovation politique doit à la position sociale de ceux qui la portent. La campagne électorale, puis la mise en place d'une gestion municipale collégiale et participative, constitue à bien des égards une opportunité de se distinguer pour une petite bourgeoisie culturelle. Working from a case field study, this article shows the extent to which political innovation is determined by the social position of those who develop and lead it. In many respects, an election campaign and the establishment of a collegial and participative way of managing a municipality can give the cultural middle class an opportunity to distinguish itself.
