L'annonce de l'arrivée de femmes à bord de la frégate Montcalm avait été perçue comme l'introduction d'éléments perturbateurs forts dans ce monde d'hommes marins et militaires. Il n'en fut rien. La féminisation a naturellement induit des changements perceptibles dans les modes de vie et de travail à bord, mais pas forcément là où ils étaient attendus. The announcement that women were to arrive on the frigate Montcalm was seen as heralding great disturbances into that world of male sailors and soldiers. Nothing of the sort happened. The introduction of women inevitably resulted in perceptible changes in life and work on board, but they were not necessarily the ones expected. Basically, the sailors responded to the introduction of female personnel by making practices more uniform.
