Contrairement à ce que pense la société civile, les militaires cultivent depuis toujours une aptitude à la réforme peu commune. Cette plasticité naturelle de l'institution se fonde sur la combinaison de multiples facteurs qui garantissent la réactivité nécessaire d'un corps social en prise avec les rapides fluctuations du monde. Mais cette aptitude porte également en germe certaines contradictions qui ne doivent pas être sous-estimées si les armées veulent être au rendez-vous des grandes réformes qui s'annoncent. Unlike what is thought in civilian circles, the military has always fostered an unusual ability to undertake reform. The institution's natural plasticity is based on a combination of factors that together ensure the responsiveness necessary for a body of people dealing with the rapid changes seen in the world. However, this ability also carries the seeds of certain contradictions that should not be under-estimated if the armed forces are to be ready for the great reforms to come.
