On observe chez les historiens une certaine réticence devant tout usage abusif du terme de territoire. Après tout, un seul grand parmi eux, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, l'a utilisé en 1973, et encore au sens figuré, pour titrer un recueil d'articles. A certain reticence exists among historians with regard to the possible abusive use of the term territory. After all, only one major historian, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, has used the term, in 1973, and even then in the figurative sense, in the title of a collection of papers.
