Le marin évolue dans un univers particulier, clos, communautaire, hostile à l'intimité. Le sexe en mer se veut banni, inconciliable avec le nécessaire besoin de solidarité et de discipline. Et la femme, réputée porter malheur, n'a pendant longtemps pas eu de place à bord. The sailor evolves in a universe that is specific, closed, communal and hostile to intimacy. Sex at sea is supposed to be banished and is considered irreconcilable with the need for solidarity and discipline. Also, for a long time, woman, reputed to bring bad luck, had no place on board.
