Le texte intitulé Ich habe Lust, im weiten Feld de Peter Rühmkorf est au centre de cette con-tribution. Cet écrit se présente comme une réaction à la fameuse critique illustrée par la photo de la « une » du Spiegel devenue également célèbre, montrant Marcel Reich-Ranicki en train de déchirer le roman post-réunification de Günter Grass, Ein weites Feld (1995, Toute une histoire). Elle se déroule sur fond de débats identitaires, politiques et sociaux mis en branle à la fin des années 1980 avec la « querelle des historiens allemands ». La polémique sur le lien entre critique littéraire et interprétation politique traitée dans l'article s'avère exemplaire du fait que l'enjeu ne se limite pas ici à mettre en évidence les lignes de fracture de l'opinion publique politico-médiatique dans les années qui suivent la chute du Mur. The present article focuses on Peter Rühmkorf's text Ich habe Lust, im weiten Feld. The latter stands as a response to a famous critical piece illustrated with the now notoriously well-known cover of the newspaper Spiegel on which Marcel Reich-Ranicki is shown tearing in two Günter Grass's post-reunification novel Ein weites Feld (1995). This particular moment is set against the backdrop of heated debates around political, social and identity issues sparked towards the end of the 1980s by what is referred to as the “dispute of German historians”. The polemical relationship between literary critics and politics broached in my essay is a case in point inasmuch as that the events were not limited to drawing lines of divide in the public opinion or in politics and in the media during the period of time after the fall of the Berlin Wall, but this very same dispute actually has become a landmark manifestation of the part played by Marcel Reich-Ranicki in the construction and fostering of such a critical space in German society.
