Les changements intervenus en Europe depuis la chute du mur de Berlin n'ont pas rendu caducs les arguments en faveur de la coopération franco-allemande et de l'unification européenne. Ils les ont plutôt renforcés. Les Allemands attendent du nouveau pouvoir en France qu'il réponde aux propositions avancées l'année dernière par les responsables de la démocratie-chrétienne pour l'organisation de l'Europe élargie. L'Union européenne aura-t-elle demain des institutions suffisamment fortes pour exclure un retour au jeu des alliances changeantes? France and Germany, by Daniel Vernet
Changes in Europe since the fall of the Berlin Wall have reinforced rather than weakened the arguments in favour of Franco-German cooperation and European unification. The Germans expect the new French government to reply to the proposais put forward by the Christian Democrats concerning the organization of an enlarged Europe. It is very much France's vocation and in her interests to contribute to the strengthening of EU institutions so as to prevent a return to the game of changing alliances.
