Résumé anglais The United Kingdom and EMU, by David Marsh This article supports and justifies the wait-and-see attitude of the United Kingdom, which announced in October 1997 that it would not be participating in the launch of the Euro on January 1, 1999. In the author's view, this non-participation will affect neither the City nor the pound sterling ― which might even become a refuge currency by staying out of EMU ― nor the country's influence on Europe which, on the contrary, might even be enhanced by this non-participation.
