Le référendum constitutionnel italien a marqué un tournant pour le système politique italien. Contrairement au référendum du Brexit, pour lequel une abondante littérature a analysé les différents aspects du comportement électoral, le référendum constitutionnel de 2016 a jusqu'à présent reçu beaucoup moins d'attention. Dans cet article, j'examine dans quelle mesure ce référendum peut être considéré comme une élection de second ordre ou, au contraire, si les convictions politiques ont affecté le choix des électeurs. Tandis que l'hypothèse de l'identification au parti a un faible pouvoir explicatif dans ce cas particulier, la personnalisation peut être considérée une procuration du choix de l'électeur pour punir ou récompenser le gouvernement en place. The Italian constitutional referendum marked a turning point for the Italian political system. In sharp contrast with the Brexit referendum, for which a burgeoning literature analysed the different aspects of the voting behaviour, the 2016 constitutional referendum has insofar attracted much less attention. In this paper I examine the extent to which this referendum can be considered as a second order election or, to the contrary, whether political beliefs impacted in the voters' choice. While party identification hypothesis has a weak explanatory power in this peculiar case, personalization can be assumed to be a proxy of the voter's choice to punish or rewarding the incumbent government.
