Quelques mois après la victoire de Gerhard Schrôder aux élections législatives allemandes et la formation d'un nouveau gouvernement de coalition SPD-Verts, Lucas Delattre s'interroge sur la réalité du changement qui s'est produit en Allemagne. Il discerne un certain nombre de transformations, mais considère que le centre de gravité politique n'a pas véritablement changé, les sociaux-démocrates étant déjà au pouvoir dans de nombreux Lànder et Helmut Kohi étant lui-même un « social-démocrate modéré ». Le pays reste, selon lui, profondément conservateur et a voté pour Gerhard Schrôder parce qu'il incarnait la perspective d'un « maintien du statu quo ». A New Germany, by Lucas Delattre The arrival in power of the social democrats and ecologists in Germany marks a break that is all the deeper in that it is part of a widespread "swing to the left" in Europe. After 16 years of Kohi government, Gerhard Schröder's team embodies a renewal in both formal and substantive terms. A new generation, a new vocabulary, a new style of power... The signs of change are many. Yet Gerhard Schröder's Germany is not "left-wing". In many respects it defends maintenance of the status quo, particularly with regard to economie policy. The sometimes vague and contradictory décisions announced by the new administration sound resolutely "centrist", being neither as liberal as Blairism nor as voluntarist and State-dominated as Jospinism.
