Alors que l'historiographie présente l'occupation de la Côte française des Somalis comme pacifique, un épisode de grande violence en 1943 permet de reconsidérer la construction de la colonie en mettant en évidence l'importance de la coercition exercée sur les populations civiles par les troupes chargées du contrôle du territoire. Cet article propose de reconsidérer les événements survenus dans l'intérieur de la colonie, entre la mort de l'administrateur Bernard en 1935 et l'occupation de la région d'Afambo en 1943, comme l'histoire d'une conquête. Il s'interroge aussi sur les conditions dans lesquelles s'instaure, durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, une oppression non contrôlée de populations en situation coloniale. While the historiography describes mostly a peaceful occupation of French Somaliland, a 1943 violent event allows another reading of this colony construction by highlighting the important coercion imposed to civilians by military troops in charge of controlling the territory. This text proposes a new reading of the events which took place within the hinterland of the colony, between the death of the civil servant Albert Bernard in 1935 and the occupation of the Afambo area in 1943, as the history of a conquest.
