Résumé anglais It is both a recomposition of the « mountain system » and an in-depth change in the scientific approaches and dsiciplines which are currently being promoted in the Alps through globalisation and patrimonialisation. The study of the development and operation of the « mountain » system, with the economic and ecological aspects necessary for sustainable development, is based here on the Tarentaise model (STAR model), which proved to be transposable and generalisable/ which we were able to transpose and generalise. The systemic approach as the basis for an interdisciplinary scientific vision and the dynamic modelling of the systems provides the first elements of a response to an active global management system for mountain areas. The definition of new concepts and a necessary théorisation place geography as the authority with respect to knowledge of space. In this field, the alpine mountain becomes an appropriate laboratory for the scientific examination of the environmental issue which is part of economic life and the quality of daily life.
