Deux villes olympiques japonaises, Sapporo et Nagano, sont comparées avec l'objectif de montrer les relations entre cette image de ville olympique et l'alpinité. Le succès des Jeux de Sapporo peut être attribué à une concordance entre la fraîcheur, la pureté et la blancheur incarnés par les JO et les images du site et de la ville. A l'opposé, Nagano n'a pu incarner ces valeurs en raison d'une identité alpine contestée et d'une absence de « transparence » dans l'attribution des Jeux. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |

Two Japanese towns which have hosted the Winter Olympics, Sapporo (1972) and Nagano (1998), are compared with a view to demonstrating the relationship between the image of the winter Olympic town and the concept of « alpineness ». The success of the Winter Olympic games in Sapporo may be attributed to the fact that the image of this town and its surrounding sites match up well to the images commonly held regarding the Winter Olympics, symbolic of snow-covered scenery, freshness and pureness. The Games in Nagano, on the other hand, were not able to achieve such success because the town's image did not correspond to that associated with a site for the Winter Olympics. Not only is Nagano's alpine identity contested but the way it was chosen to host the Games is also open to question. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
