Le paysage politico-diplomatique de l'Afrique centrale a profondément évolué depuis le début du siècle : à la veille de la décennie 2020 de nouvelles lignes de force géopolitiques se font jour. Les présidents africains de la nouvelle génération savent, mieux que leurs aînés des années 1990-2000, composer avec le nouvel ordre mondial, avec ses règles du jeu en recomposition au XXIe siècle. L'Afrique centrale y occupe une place d'autant plus stratégique qu'elle est devenue le centre d'un nouveau « Grand Jeu » dans lequel la Chine s'impose comme le grand acteur international. Entre les nouveaux rapports de force multilatéraux et les repositionnements des acteurs étatiques et para-étatiques africains et étrangers, une nouvelle géographie politique de la sous-région émerge : les héritages postcoloniaux y sont souvent identifiés mais les nouvelles combinaisons stratégiques trop fréquemment sous-estimées. The political and diplomatic situation of Central Africa has deeply changed since the beginning of the twenty-first century. At the beginning of the 2020s, new geopolitical trends are emerging. African presidents from the new generation know much better than their elders from the 1990s and 2000s how to play with the changing rules of the international game. Central Africa is becoming, in the new international order, the center of a new “Great Game” in which China appears as the major international actor. A new political geography is emerging between a new balance of power, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the repositioning of African and foreign institutional actors : post-colonial legacies are often identified but new strategical schemes are usually underestimated.
