The article focuses on the question of how the decision was taken at the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 to leave the German- and Ladin-speaking Tyrol to Italy as far as the Brenner Pass. The first part of the article deals with the “management of decisions” surrounding the creation of the border which still exists today and which divides North and South Tyrol, and the related question of which motivations were decisive in real political terms for the Brenner border - and at the same time against other variants of drawing the border. In a second part, on the other hand, the focus is on the direct political, social and socio-economic effects of the Peace of Paris in the historical area of Tyrol. The economic and social consequences of the Parisian decision for the region in the early post-war period are examined. Particular attention is paid to the direct effects that the region had as a result of the new border demarcation at the Brenner Pass and the division of the province.
