La technicité des éléments qui composent et fondent un système de classification des emplois peut en masquer les enjeux. Un cadre conceptuel rigoureux permet cependant de mettre clairement ceux-ci en évidence dans un cas particulièrement significatif : la négociation de la nouvelle grille de classifications dans la métallurgie, qui s'est déroulée de 1968 à 1975. Since 1945, and during nearly thirty years, the wages scales in French industry have been grounded upon a formal classification, known, following the name of their main author, as the " classification Parodi In 1968 every one has agreed on the growing inadequacy of the system and long négociations were initiated in order to design a new one.
