A partir d'une enquête menée auprès d'ingénieurs et de techniciens supérieurs dans deux entreprises industrielles françaises, Fauteur met à l'épreuve la thèse de la déqualification du travail des ingénieurs. Il montre que les seules conclusions que l'on puisse avancer débouchent sur la transformation du travail de l'ingénieur et qu'il s'agit d'un travail qui appelle toujours des réponses inédites à des problèmes industriels dont les termes sont sans cesse renouvelés par des marchés et des technologies en constante évolution. Using a survey of engineers and upper-level technicians in French industrial firms, the hypothesis about the dequalification, or downgrading, of engineers' jobs is tested.
