Après avoir présenté l'érudition comme une entreprise prédisposée à l'étude de l'altérité et conduisant à différentes formes d'indiscipline, l'article s'attache à montrer la redistribution entre information et communication qu'elle opère en privilégiant avant tout la première, pour mieux fixer in fine les réelles conditions de la seconde. Comme méthode d'objectivation tournée vers la vérité, l'érudition vaut socialement, à l'heure du « tout réseau », pour son examen critique des sources informationnelles et des données en ligne et repousse par une certitude mieux assurée de ce que l'on sait et ce dont parle, l'horizon d'incommunication inhérent à toute relation. This article begins by presenting erudition as an endeavor that is well suited to the study of alterity, one that leads to different forms of “indiscipline.” It then seeks to show the redistribution between information and communication that is carried out by erudition, by giving priority to the former for the ultimate purpose of better pinning down the real conditions of the latter. As a method of objectification that is directed towards truth, erudition has a social value at a time when networks are ubiquitous, because it brings critical scrutiny to sources of information and online data. By providing us with a stronger sense of certainty about what we know and discuss, it also pushes back the horizon of incommunication that is inherent in all relationships.
