This article presents the itinerary of María Lejárraga, a brilliant modernist writer, feminist and socialist deputy to the Constitutional Assembly of the Spanish Second Republic, especially during the years 1931-1936. This context influenced the evolution of her social and literary identity as a politically and publicly active woman citizen, and more specifically, a citizen committed to socialist and feminist issues. The article examines the linkage between María Lejárraga's emotional motivation and the joy of experiencing the birth of the Republic, as well as her civic and political engagement and the related changes in the substance and style of her writing.
