À l'heure où l'été bat son plein et qu'une partie des vacanciers a rejoint les côtes pour profiter de la mer, Futuribles poursuit sa série consacrée aux océans, lancée il y a un an, en juillet-août 2020. Cette fois, c'est la Méditerranée qui est au centre de l'analyse, avec un focus sur les conséquences potentielles du changement climatique sur cette région chevauchant l'Afrique, l'Europe et le Moyen-Orient.Thierry Lavoux, François Guerquin et Katarzyna Marini, s'appuyant sur les travaux du réseau d'experts du changement climatique et environnemental en région méditerranéenne (MedECC), rappellent l'impact du réchauffement climatique qui pourrait toucher la région d'ici le milieu et la fin du siècle : catastrophes climatiques (sécheresses, inondations), élévation du niveau de la mer, acidification des eaux…, auront des conséquences majeures sur les activités humaines (agriculture, habitat) et les écosystèmes. Les auteurs soulignent ensuite la situation des différentes régions du Bassin méditerranéen en matière d'émission de gaz à effet de serre, et les actions engagées (ou pas) en vue d'une atténuation du changement climatique. Mais quel que soit le scénario d'évolution du climat, la région en pâtira et c'est dans l'adaptation aux conséquences qui en découleront que se joue la résilience des populations locales. S.D. With summer at its height and a section of holidaymakers enjoying the benefits of the seaside, Futuribles is continuing its series on the oceans begun a year ago in July-August 2020. This time the Mediterranean takes centre stage in the analysis, with a specific focus on the potential consequences of climate change on this region which straddles Africa, Europe and the Middle East.Drawing on work by Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC), Thierry Lavoux, François Guerquin and Katarzyna Marini examine the impact of climate change that might affect the region by the middle and end of the present century: climate disasters (droughts, floods), higher sea levels, acidification etc. will have major effects on human activities (agriculture, habitat) and ecosystems. They go on to stress the situation of the different regions of the Mediterranean Basin in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, and the action taken (or not) to alleviate climate change. But whatever the scenario, the region will suffer and it is in adapting to the consequences that follow that the resilience of the local populations will come into play.
