Résumé anglais |
Released in 2017, Zama awakened the interest of international critics who described it as a cinematographic marvel. Based on the homonymous novel by Antonio Di Benedetto (1956), the film takes up the phenomenological reflection on the American being as well as the criticism of the vain search of male conquistadores who impose their power on other populations and Nature. We will examine how the film creates an estrangement based on how the codes of representation are challenged from an anti-colonial and anti-patriarchal perspective, managing to create a baroque and deeply polyphonic work that causes continuous decentering. But the tangible influence of the existentialist and absurd philosophy also invites us to consider it as a specific prism of analysis. We will thus evoke Simone de Beauvoir's philosophical considerations upon limits and meaning of human actions in order to propose an interpretation of the optimistic coloration claimed by Martel for her film.
