L'article traite du roman Die Insel de Matthias Wegehaupt (2005) qui, comme le suggère son titre, s'inscrit dans la tradition de la robinsonnade, genre littéraire particulièrement à même de proposer une réflexion sur la relation de l'homme à la nature. Plaçant face à face deux Robinson que tout oppose, le roman prolonge à la fois la tradition du Robinson actif et civilisateur de Defoe que le personnage du « chef de l'île » pervertit en la dévoyant à des fins politiques, et celle d'un Robinson contemplatif et proche de la nature incarné par le personnage du peintre. Il s'inscrit en outre dans la tradition du nature writing dans la mesure où l'île n'y est pas réduite à un « décor » mais y apparaît comme un être vivant à respecter, comme un sujet doué de pouvoirs régénérants et d'une capacité de résistance à l'action des hommes. The article deals with the novel Die Insel (2005) by Matthias Wegehaupt, which, as its title suggests, is part of the tradition of the robinsonnade, a literary form particularly suited to proposing a reflection on the relationship between the human beings and the nature. By placing two opposing Robinsons face to face, it extends both the tradition of Defoe's active and civilising Robinson, which the character of the “chief of the island” perverts by diverting it to political ends, and that of a contemplative Robinson close to nature, represented by the character of the painter. But it's also part of the tradition of nature writing because the island appears not only as a scenery, but also as a subject with regenerative powers and a capacity to resist human action.
