Living in the street and « manage ». Journey of non-supported foreign minors in Brussels This article rests on the results of a research done with foreign minors with no parental support. Made within the framework of a doctorate in sociology, this study, realised in Lille and Brussels, has tried to reconstitute the migratory journey of young people taken in care by the protection of youth social services or living outside any dispositive. We will try to point out the experiment of young migrants who are living in Brussels independently without a regular protection of care dispositive. Place of suffering and violence, within which forms of socialization and desocialization mix (Roulleau-Berger, 2005), the street is also apprehended through improvisation and resourcefulness practices which it imposes. Even though the situation of insecurity and incertitude in which they are in, the analysis outlines how, minors and young adults with no papers, reach to develop resources to adapt and interact with their environment – know-how which they also have been building throughout their journey. Moreover, regarding the behaviours that are being developed, we highlight that these young people situate themselves as in and out the protection system on account of a specific way of life and paradoxical choices.
