Le pouvoir totalitaire ne peut pas exister sans l'ennemi, et pour le punir et le contenir il se sert du camp de concentration. Dans l'idéologie communiste, l'ennemi est de type « social » et par conséquent rééducable. De cette acception découle l'appellation officielle des camps en Bulgarie : Foyers de rééducation par le travail. La raison d'être de ces institutions est la transformation physique et psychologique de l'individu pour qu'il ait le droit de vivre dans la société communiste en construction. Dans ce processus de rééducation/transformation de l'individu, le sentiment de honte a une place essentielle. Shame as an instrument of human being's transformation. Internment in the People's Republic of BulgariaTotalitarian power cannot exist without an enemy, and the regime uses the concentration camp to punish and contain it. According to the communist ideology, the enemy is of “social” type and therefore able to be re-educated. From this understanding comes the official name of the camps in Bulgaria: Centres for re-education through labour. The purpose of these institutions is the physical and psychological transformation of the human being in order to obtain the full right of living in the communist society under construction. In this process of individual re-education / transformation, the shame has an essential place. It is used by the institution to dominate the human being and control its entirety.
