L'histoire culturelle du champ de la bande dessinée suppose de prendre en compte les spécificités nationales relatives au contexte éditorial, aux traditions culturelles et aux représentations propres à chaque aire nationale : ainsi, au sein de l'aire anglophone, la Grande-Bretagne et les États-Unis se distinguent par leur propension à privilégier des genres, des thèmes et des formats qui font écho à leur contexte socioculturel propre. Cependant, la variété et la complexité des échanges entre ces différentes aires permettent de faire émerger une lecture transnationale du champ. À travers l'étude du phénomène de l'« invasion britannique », cet article montre comment de tels échanges structurent le développement de l'industrie états-unienne mainstream à la fin du xxe siècle. To understand the cultural history of the field of comics, one must take into account national specificities such as editorial context, cultural traditions and representations of national identity. Thus, within the anglophone sphere, Great Britain and the United States each seem to foster stories whose genres, themes and format echo their respective sociocultural context. However, the variety and complexity of exchanges between the two areas support a truly transnational reading of the filed. Based on the example of the so-called “British Invasion” of comics, this article demonstrates how transnational exchanges provide a backdrop for the development of the mainstream industry of comics in the US at the end of the 20th century.
