Depuis 1945, les bibliothèques municipales occupent une place non négligeable sur la scène éditoriale, en produisant des livres destinés à valoriser leurs collections. Ces publications constituent une porte d'entrée intéressante pour étudier la manière dont la médiation ne se contente pas de manifester le patrimoine ; elle contribue aussi fortement à le créer de toutes pièces. Trois périodes apparaissent. Entre 1945 et 1970 environ, les bibliothèques s'en tiennent aux délimitations traditionnelles du patrimoine, en mettant l'accent sur les manuscrits, les incunables, les estampes, les reliures précieuses par exemple. Dans les années 1970 et 1980, la littérature contemporaine, nationale ou régionale est au cœur des explorations des bibliothèques, qui participent ainsi à la canonisation des auteurs et des œuvres. Since 1945, public libraries in France take a significant place in the publishing world, producing books to enhance their collections. These publications are an interesting way to study the relationship between cultural mediation and heritage. Mediation does not just show the heritage; it also strongly contributes to create it from scratch. Three periods emerge. From about 1945 and 1970, libraries stick to traditional delineations of heritage, focusing on manuscripts, incunabula, prints, precious bindings, for example. In the 1970's and 1980's, libraries explore contemporary national or regional literature and thus participate in the canonization of authors and works. Since 1990, as they are forced to renew themselves, they engage in the patrimonialization of unpublished objects, without much connection with the world of the book.
