L'étymologie du terme accueillir révèle sa dimension anthropologique : celle du classement qui opère une distinction entre ceux que l'on exclue et ceux que l'on reçoit, celle de la responsabilité qui nous impose le devoir d'hospitalité, quelles que soient, par ailleurs, les limites que l'on impose à ce devoir social. C'est dire l'aspect éminemment politique de l'accueil, au sens où il confère une orientation au rapport à l'altérité et, par extension, à la configuration des rapports sociaux au sein d'une société. Une autre dimension concerne l'engagement que l'on consent dans l'accueil de l'autre. The etymology of the term «to host» reveals its anthropological dimension: that of the classification which creates a distinction between those who are excluded and those who are welcomed, that of the responsibility to act in a hospitable manner, within the any given limits imposed on this social duty. This shows the eminently political aspect of hospitality, in the sense that it directs the relationship with otherness and, by extension, with the configuration of social relationships existing in a given society. Another dimension concerns the commitment that one makes in welcoming the other.
