L'avenir de l'impératif participatif s'articule à un contexte d'intrication croissante entre la participation et la communication et à un processus de médiatisation croissante des relations sociales. Dans ce contexte où communication et participation en viennent à poursuivre les mêmes objectifs, les pratiques se coconstruisent sur la base de références aux imaginaires de la participation et de la communication, ce qui conduit à la confusion. L'intrication entre la participation et la communication, la prédominance du caractère technique des dispositifs participatifs, leurs objectifs peu clairs ou utilitaristes minent la confiance qu'ont les citoyens dans la participation elle-même, alors que ses objectifs idéaux visent l'effet inverse. The future of the participatory imperative is articulated in a context of increasing entanglement between participation and communication and in a process of increasing mediatization of social relations. In this context, where communication and participation come to pursue the same objectives, practices are co-constructed on the basis of references to the imaginaries of participation and communication, which leads to confusion. The intertwining of participation and communication, the predominance of the technical character of participatory mechanisms, their unclear or utilitarian objectives undermine the confidence that citizens have in participation itself, even though its ideal objectives aim at the opposite effect.
