La pandémie de Covid-19 a remis sur le devant de la scène un certain nombre de débats anciens sur les effets de la digitalisation de l'économie concernant les dimensions spatiales du travail. Le focus a été porté en particulier sur le potentiel de libération des contraintes apporté par le télétravail. Cependant, les transformations de l'organisation spatiale du travail ne sont pas récentes, ni uniquement dues à des évolutions d'ordre technique (digitalisation). En outre, ses effets sont loin d'être univoques : si pour certaines professions, les contraintes s'allègent, pour d'autres, elles se renforcent avec des risques de contrôle à distance et de fragmentation spatio-temporelle renforcés. En outre, les effets de cette fragmentation spatio-temporelle sont inégalement répartis et maîtrisés. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought back to the forefront a number of long-standing debates on the effects of the digitalization of the economy on the spatial dimensions of work. The focus has been frequently put on the potential of liberation from constraints brought about by telework. In this article, we show, however, that transformations in the spatial organization of work are not recent, nor are they solely due to technical developments (digitalization). Moreover, its effects are far from being unequivocal: while for some professions the constraints are lightened, for others they are reinforced with increased risks of remote control and spatio-temporal fragmentation. Moreover, the effects of this spatio-temporal fragmentation are unevenly distributed. Thus, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of inequalities in the face of the spatial constraints of work.
