Sur fond d'érosion de leur ancrage social et de leur crédit symbolique, les organisations syndicales sont traversées aujourd'hui par des luttes autour des pratiques et du sens de l'engagement. Dans cette perspective, l'article analyse les efforts de délégués d'une usine du nord de Buenos Aires, en Argentine, pour faire émerger et diffuser un « sens syndical alternatif », à partir de l'animation d'un centre socio-éducatif et d'un cycle de formation proposé à des ouvriers de l'industrie chimique. Après être revenu sur les ressorts sociaux et organisationnels de ce projet militant, l'article en explore les conditions de réussite. Si cet espace de formation rend possible une mise en débat des formes et du périmètre d'intervention du syndicalisme, l'enquête ethnographique montre aussi combien ce processus est entravé par les appels au loyalisme des dirigeants du syndicat de branche, auxquels certains participants – en raison de leurs trajectoires et de leurs dispositions – se montrent sensibles. Against the backdrop of the erosion of their social roots and symbolic credibility, trade unions are currently involved in struggles over their practices and the meaning of being committed in a union. In this perspective, the article analyzes the efforts of delegates from a factory in the north of Buenos Aires, Argentina, to create and disseminate an “alternative trade union sense” through the animation of a socio-educational center and a training cycle offered to chemical industry workers. After going back over the social and organizational roots of this militant project, the article explores the conditions for its success. If this training space makes it possible to debate the forms and the perimeter of intervention for trade unionism, the ethnographic investigation also shows how much this process is hindered by the calls for loyalty of the leaders of the branch union, to which certain participants – because of their trajectories and their dispositions – show themselves sensitive.
