La notion d'imagination est centrale dans l'œuvre de Thomas Hobbes et pourtant sous-étudiée. Derrière une apparente homogénéité du corpus, la notion d'imagination subit des évolutions importantes au fil des décennies. Hobbes la comprend peu à peu comme une activité indissociablement cognitive et affective. L'intérêt pour le rôle des affects dans la vie mentale va conduire Hobbes à placer l'imagination au cœur de son anthropologie et de son système politique. Although the notion of imagination is central in the work of Thomas Hobbes, it is understudied. Despite the corpus' apparent homogeneity, the notion of imagination changes significantly over the decades. Hobbes gradually comes to understand the imagination as an inseparably cognitive and affective activity. Eventually, his interest in imagination leads him to place it at the heart of his anthropology and his political system.
