Le tiers-espace socio scientifique (TESS) opérationnalise la démarche de recherche-intervention (RI). Il correspond à la mise en lien des contextes professionnels et de recherche, au travers d'une dimension participative et en articulant deux visées, connaître et transformer. L'article présente le TESS et le précise à l'aide de trois niveaux d'analyse : le concept de dispositif (au travers de la dialectique contrainte / liberté), la notion de tiers espace (qui cible le trait d'union) et une approche par les médiations. Elles permettent de caractériser les dynamiques à l'œuvre en distinguant, d'abord, leurs dimensions techniques et symboliques et, ensuite, deux familles de médiations : celles de l'orthopédie du social et celles du lien social. Notons enfin que les fonctions critiques et politiques de la RI sont investies, différemment mais en complémentarité, par chacun des trois niveaux d'analyse. The third socio-scientific space (TESS) operationalizes the research-intervention approach (RI). It corresponds to the linking of professional and research contexts, through a participatory dimension and by articulating two aims, to know and to transform. The article presents the TESS and specifies it using three levels of analysis : the concept of device (through the dialectic of constraint / freedom), the concept of third space (which targets the hyphen) and a mediations approach. They make it possible to characterize the dynamics by distinguishing, first, their technical and symbolic dimensions and, then, two families of mediations : those of social orthopedics and those of social bond.
